October 14, 2006 - I had nothing to do on a cloudy Saturday
afternoon and wound up driving south into the northern San Luis Valley. I arrived in Saguache and
found this small town with no traffic lights quite endearing ... and quiet! |
 |
Just outside of town, here are a couple of views of the mountain scenery.
The San Luis Valley has a great amount of desert terrain that gives it more of a feel like New Mexico. |
 |
I spotted the main avenue and found the sleepiness of it to be very endearing! |
 |
About half of the buildings on the main avenue were not being used and were not occupied for commerical purposes.
TOP: The historic Saguache County Bank building that appears as though it is being used as a private residence.
MIDDLE: The Saguache Hotel & Restaurant, which is no longer in operation.
BOTTOM: A bright yellow building that was once occupied by the Saguache Crescent newspaper.
Here are some of my pages from this region:

The Saguache County Building and Courthouse. |

The Saguache, Colorado post office.

A boarding up building that serves as a suprette on Highway 285. |
 |
I considered visiting the Saguache County Museum, but opted to visit another time. |
 |
Ah, but there was one bank that is in operation in downtown Saguache.
The First Southwest Bank is open Monday through Friday! :) |
 |
A creative photo of two campaign signs. From what I
could gather, Linda Joseph and Ed Nielsen are competing for the same county commissioner seat in the county. |
 |
After wandering around Saguache,
I headed west on Highway 114 and snapped this one token photo
of myself at North Cochetopa Pass, which is part of the Continental Divide. ;) |
