October 9, 2007 - Yesterday was one of those days
where I knew I had to get outof the house!
I decided to drive from Buena Vista
(where I live) to Westcliffe to see what the
autumn colors were like. All in all, I was fairly disappointed with the lack of
fall colors,
but I found myself continually snapping photos of the beautiful
Sangre De Cristo Mountains.
Adjacent are three westerly views of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains from in and around the town of Westcliffe. |
 |
I continued driving past Westcliffe and kept driving and driving and driving!
Adjacent is a photo of Gardner Butte, a prominent landmark in the town of Gardner in Huerfano County.
I made it all the way to Walsenberg, where I had lunch at Carl's Jr. ;) |
 |
I then traveled west towards La Veta Pass. The pointed peak is Mt. Maestas. |
 |
West of La Veta Pass and east of Fort Garland, I pulled over at one
point to capture the grand view of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains
once again. |
 |
I then headed north and came close to the entrance
to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. |
 |
Looking towards the mountains that
include Zapata Falls, a popular waterfall visited by many. |
 |
One last photo. North of
Villa Grove in northern Saguache County,
here was the view of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains to the east.
That rust color is an exhibition of autumn color happening.
